So

I talked about my blog at work today and I realized I have not blogged in a long time. So an update is in order. My writing has been coming along I'm about 60 pages in my screenplay and while I believe it's garbage I think it could eventually turn into something decent. I'm putting ideas on paper. In another 30 or so pages when I finish act 3 it will be time to polish the stone into a gem. It probably wont be a diamond but I'll take quartz my first time out. I'm also writing wha started out as a short story but is looking like it may end up as a novella by the time I'm done. I really got into the main character and I just took off with it. I actually have thought recently about writing two more stories based on the same character and two different parts of his life. We will see. I am writing more, almost everyday now which is something I havn't been able to say in a while. It feels good.

so i did it

I took the plunge I put my first words on paper in final draft. I outlined act one last time and i let it sit in my head for a bit but I got down on paper what equates to about one and half minuets of a movie. How exciting.

Outline

So I bought Syd Fields book the screenwriters workbook and I told my self I would work through all the steps and that was how I would write my screen play. However I have found that It is much easier for to shift the order I do these things in and take out some of the more vague free association writing like exercise one. I think these could be useful for someone who has a brand new idea and hasn't really fleshed it out but I have been thinking about my story for a few months now and have a good concept of where it starts and where it ends.


Anyways

This post is to celebrate me finishing the outline for Act one of my screenplay Compulsive. Its not very interesting to read so I'm not going to post it up here. When I do the character bios I might post those but for the most part this warm up stuff wont be posted. I will post parts of the screenplay but I'm still at least a week or two out from actually writing that.

writing again

It has been a long time since I have written something. I mean like a beginning middle and end story. I started writing that short story a couple of posts ago but never came back to it. I use to love writing. I would spend hours writing stories one lines songs poems and just bull shit stream of conscious rants. I am going to start writing again. Im trying out a completely new medium the screen play. I have always wanted to write one and I just decided I am going to do it. Since I have never been taught how I bought a book that gives advice and exercises to get it started. I was going to do the first exercise today before work but I have to go in 2 hours earlier than planned so I will try to do it after. Im not sure anyone really reads this but if you do drop a comment or something. I will be posting bits and pieces of what I throw together as I work through this book so if you enjoy it let me know if you think it blows let me no.
